    Junior tennis team off to Sri Lanka

    Three national junior tennis players will be competing in the ITF Asia U14 Development Championships that is taking place in Colombo, Sri Lanka from January 13 to 23.

    Eason Lim, Haziq Sabrin with Jamielee Goh Wei Rou led by National Tennis coach Billy Wong left the country yesterday for Sri Lanka.

    In an interview, Billy Wong said, “We are hoping that Brunei Top Junior Tennis player Eason Lim will be able to compete and collect ranking points from the tournaments. For Haziq Sabrin and Jamielee Goh Wei Rou, they will be looking at gaining much needed exposure and experience from the tournaments.”

    He added the team has been preparing for the tournament through intensive training for the past three months. He also expressed high hopes and looks forward to see the potential growth among the competing junior tennis players. They also have various levels of competition success in local tournaments.

    The International Tennis Federation, in conjunction with the Asian Tennis Federation is hosting this regional qualifying event, covering South, Southeast and East Asia zones and invitation to 13 countries including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Timor Leste.

    BDTA, as a member of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has been a regular participant of this regional qualifying event with the objective of exposing junior players to both regional and international competitions.
