Joint venture to breed koi fish

A joint venture (JV) company between Japan’s Atami City and local businessman Ho Hee Lee will be set up next year to breed nishikigoi (Japanese koi) for Brunei and export markets.

The new company, Nishigoi Sdn Bhd, was announced by Ikeda Shuichi from Atami Brunei Nishikigoi Promotion Association during an interview.

Ikeda said the JV is a result of a feasibility study two years ago with support from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).

He also revealed that the Sultanate was invited to join Osaka Expo 2025 and there are two other collaborations.

The Japanese city is planning with Brunei travel agents to offer tour packages to Atami while a digital information screen was set up in the city to promote the Sultanate.

Ghanim International Corporation Sdn Bhd visited the Japanese city in June and held briefings at Atami hotels on providing halal ingredients to produce halal food. Several hotels have shown interest. – James Kon
