Joint operation unearths littering, labour offences

The Licensing and Enforcement unit of Temburong District Office issued compound fines to three local companies for disposing rubbish in public areas.

Two companies were each slapped with BND500 compound fines while one company received a BND1,000 fine.

The fines must be settled within seven days and the areas cleaned.

Failure to do so will result in further action, which is a fine not more than BND1,000 for the first offence and not more than BND 3,000 for subsequent offence as well as imprisonment of no more than three months.

The offences were detected through a joint operation by the Royal Brunei Police Force, Royal Customs and Excise Department, Labour Department, Land Transport Department and Health Enforcement Unit targeting various commercial areas within Temburong District.

Meanwhile, the Labour Department discovered one offence of failing to provide first aid equipment. If found guilty, the employer will face a BND600 compound fine for the first offence and BND900 for the second offence.

For subsequent offences or failure to pay the fine, the employer will be produced in court. – James Kon
