Enforcement personnel in a joint operation foiled an attempt to smuggle alcohol into the country at the Brunei Bay area recently.
During the operation, marine patrol boat personnel chased after a suspicious boat driven at high speed. Individuals in the boat abandoned the cargo into the river to avoid being captured and escaped to a neighbouring country.
The joint operation by enforcement personnel from the Marine Police, Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) as well as Royal Brunei Armed Forces recovered 140 cans of alcohol.
The contraband were brought back to the RCED.
Meanwhile, four fishing boats were inspected during the operation with no offences recorded, according to the Royal Brunei Police Force. – James Kon
