Joint discussion aims to foster innovation, enhance academic curriculum

Network Integrity Assurance Technologies (NIAT) Sdn Bhd and Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) held a joint discussion at NIAT’s headquarters in Kampong Menglait.

The open dialogue is a strategic move to align each other’s goals in fostering innovation and enhancing the academic curriculum. Currently, NIAT and UBD has an ongoing academia grant supporting the development of OBSERVETM, a Geographical Information System (GIS) platform to visualise satellite data imagery.

In attendance were NIAT’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lim Ming Soon and Head of Commercial Wong Teck Sion. Representing UBD were the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise) Professor Dr Mohammad Ayub Sadiq along with the Deputy Director (Innovation) Dr Lim Ren Chong, Deputy Director (Enterprise) Dr Annie Dayani binti Haji Ahad, and Assistant Registrar Fifi Faulina binti Haji Zailani.

Recent discussions focuses on a potential collaboration. UBD’s commitment to innovation and enterprise was emphasised, with a focus on engaging individuals in research activities.

UBD has been actively fostering entrepreneurship, conducting training programmes for students, encouraging start-ups, and inviting industry professionals to share insights.

The initiative aims to bridge the gap between theory and industry perspectives, contributing to the enhancement of the country’s technological ecosystem.

NIAT’s CEO expressed unwavering support for innovation and a keen interest in investing in start-ups. He emphasised NIAT’s core business in Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) technology and conveyed a desire to extend support to the UBD’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Lim Ming Soon underscored the commitment to start-up and industry funding, regardless of origin – be it graduates or entrepreneurs.

He also noted the importance of instilling an entrepreneurial mindset in individuals with a vital role in the industry.
