Jealousy rears ugly end: nine months’ jail for threats

Local Mohammad Hamdillah bin Omar Ali, 22, faced the consequences of his jealousy-driven actions when Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid sentenced him to nine months in jail yesterday.

The court proceedings, detailed by Prosecutor Ahmad Firdaus bin Mohammad, revealed that on April 14, the defendant visited his girlfriend, the victim, to retrieve his phone.

Later that night, after returning home, the defendant contacted the victim via WhatsApp, only to learn that she wanted to end their relationship due to another man proposing to her.

Enraged and consumed by jealousy, the defendant unleashed a torrent of threatening messages, including chilling statements like “You will die because of me” and “Do not say that I am not brave enough to kill both of you”.

Alarmed by the defendant’s threats, the victim promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to the defendant’s arrest.

During investigations, screenshots of the threatening messages were uncovered, along with evidence of the defendant’s threat to upload an intimate video of the couple. The defendant admitted to sending these messages with the intention of causing alarm to the victim. – Fadley Faisal
