Jawi calligraphy writing winners feted

Haji Shahruddin bin Haji Abdul Wahid from Kampong Pulaie Mosque clinched first place in the Jawi Calligraphy Competition organised by the Library Division of the Mosque Affairs Department of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), in collaboration with Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque Takmir Committee in Kampong Kiarong.

Mazlan bin Haji Maidin from Kampong Masin Mosque came in second and Haji Yakob bin Haji Yusof was placed third.

Acting Director of Mosque Affairs at the MoRA Haji Amir Hisham bin Haji Masri, as the guest of honour, presented prizes.

The Jawi Calligraphy Workshop and Competition for mosque takmir committee members nationwide was held in conjunction with the new Islamic year of 1444 Hijrah.

The workshop and competition aimed to provide exposure on the different styles of Jawi calligraphy, as well as the proper technique on the basic method of Jawi calligraphy.

The competition participants had participated in a two-day Jawi calligraphy workshop at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong.
