JASTRe marks Nationwide Recycling Day

A total of 789 kilogrammmes (kg) of paper, 106.3kg of cardboards, 432.46kg of plastic bottles, 188.6 litres of used cooking oil and 259 units of electrical and electronic waste or e-waste were collected within four hours during a nationwide recycling drive yesterday.

The Nationwide Recycling Day, organised by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), in conjunction with World Environment Day 2024, took place at JASTRe offices in all four districts.

The initiative aimed to increase public awareness and participation in recycling, while introducing related services in the country.

The collected waste was taken to companies, where it is either processed domestically or being exported overseas to be recycled. – Lyna Mohamad
