    Japan drafts basic AI policies

TOKYO (ANN/YOMIURI AHIMBUN) – The Japanese government plans to consider mandating major artificial intelligence developers to disclose specific information, as outlined in a draft of its basic policies on AI regulation.

Additionally, it will explore controlling AI from a security standpoint in line with technological advancements and international dialogues. Emphasising the importance of fairness and necessity in AI regulations, the draft highlights the need to address AI systems potentially linked to crimes and human rights violations.

Furthermore, discussions will be held on creating a framework requiring significant AI operators to adjust their systems and share certain information.

This policy aims to enhance safety by encouraging developers to collaborate with the government.

The draft is set to be reviewed by the AI strategic council, comprising experts, during its meeting on Wednesday.
