Jangsak pedestrian bridge opens

An overhead pedestrian bridge across Jalan Gadong in Kampong Jangsak was officially opened by guest of honour Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, joined by sponsor Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin, yesterday.

Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh, as a Kampong Jangsak resident for over 40 years, noticed the road with Seri Mulia Sarjana School and Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Silver Jubilee Mosque in the area causing daily traffic congestion particularly during rush hours. He also saw safety as an issue for students and parents who had to climb over barriers to cross the road during high traffic flow.

With the well-being of the children and parents in mind, the philanthropist contributed BND330,000 for the construction of a bridge with approval from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Government.

Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Silver Jubilee Mosque Imam Haji Kamaluddin bin Haji Abdul Rahim recited Doa Selamat at the event while Alvo Consultant’s Alice Lim gave a briefing on project development.

Permanent Secretary (Infrastructure, Housing and Professional) at the Ministry of Development Ir Haji Amer Hishamuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Zakaria was also in attendance. – Azlan Othman
