A local man was sentenced to eight months’ jail with one whipping after he pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday to sexually assaulting a female colleague.
Senior Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman heard that 29-year-old Mat Yusra bin Haji Mat Yussof was at work at 5.30pm on April 15 when he invited the victim to go for a smoke.
The victim rejected the defendant’s invitation, but the accused continued harassing the victim, eventually touching her waist.
The victim pushed his hand away causing the defendant to leave the room.
Not long after that, the victim went into an office room.
The defendant followed, closed the door behind and approached the victim.
He moved up towards the victim, told her to remove her mask.
The victim thought there was something on her face and removed her mask.
This was when the defendant kissed the victim and groped her breasts.
The victim was alarmed by the defendant’s actions, pushed him away, causing him to leave the room.
The victim confided in her mother later that night which led her to file a police report.
