A Bangladeshi man, who overstayed in the country for 787 days, was sentenced to four months’ jail with three whippings by the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Kobirul Islam, 36, pleaded guilty to the charge and admitted to the Immigration Prosecutor Zul Azri Ranee’s facts of the case stating that immigration enforcement officers arrested him during an inspection at his rented quarters in Kampong Tanjong Nangka on January 17.

From investigations, officers found that the defendant had fled from his employer in 2020 and had been doing odd jobs since.

Magistrate Nur Eleana binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Hairol Arni presided over the case.
