Istiadat Gendang Jaga-Jaga ceremony begins

The Istiadat Membuka Gendang Jaga-Jaga ceremony or the playing of traditional musical instruments by royal court musicians for the purpose of keeping vigil, denoted the beginning of a royal ceremonies (also known as Musim Istiadat Diraja) was held on Monday.

The ceremony was held in conjunction with the royal wedding between Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Bahar ibni His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

Conducted in full of royal customs, it was carried out in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince as representative of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Also in attendance were His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
