“Islamic teachings provide vital guidance in addressing the drug problem facing our society,” emphasised State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, during a lecture held in conjunction with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2024.
The lecture, titled “The Role of Islamic Values in Addressing Drug Issues in Brunei Darussalam,” was delivered on Wednesday at the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. Organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in collaboration with the State Mufti Department, the event sought to integrate Islamic principles into efforts to combat drug abuse.
The State Mufti’s address underscored the profound relevance of Islamic teachings in guiding society toward moral and ethical responsibility, particularly in dealing with the drug menace. He emphasised that the principles enshrined in Islam not only provide clear prohibitions against harmful substances but also outline a comprehensive framework for prevention, rehabilitation, and community support.
In his lecture, the State Mufti reminded attendees that drugs undermine the moral fabric of society, disrupt families, and hinder national progress. He stressed the collective responsibility of all stakeholders, including religious leaders, policymakers, educators, and the community, in fostering a culture that rejects drug abuse.
The lecture forms part of a series of events organised in conjunction with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which highlights the importance of ongoing efforts to safeguard the nation’s well-being and future generations. – FADLEY FAISAL
