In conjunction with the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition 2023 (Brunei MYCE 2023), the Research Centre for Islamic History, Arts and Culture (IRCICA) from Turkiye in collaboration with the Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and Embassy of Turkiye in Brunei Darussalam held the Islamic Calligraphy and Arts Exhibition.

The exhibition, which ends tomorrow, was held at Balai Khazanah Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (BKISHHB).

Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman was the guest of honour.

Also present were Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metusin and Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan.

Representing IRCICA were its Director-General Professor Dr Mahmut Erol Kilic and programme coordinator Samet Yalcin.

In the afternoon, Dr Kilic delivered an address on the philosophy of Islamic calligraphy at the BKISHHB auditorium, which also included IRCICA’s role in preserving the Islamic arts heritage globally since 1979.

He said the exhibition carries expressions of Islamic spirit, understanding and solidarity conveyed through the works of international artists.

He added that IRCICA produces scholarly research, and organises artistic and educational programmes to highlight Islamic history and civilisation, and fosters interactions between Muslims as well as with other communities.
