As the official religion of Brunei Darussalam, Islam is not only a symbol, but it plays a major role in shaping the lives of those embracing it.
Despite the Sultanate being a small nation, the influence of Islam is significant as Muslim and non-Muslim communities live harmoniously under the reign of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
This was said by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman during the National Level Major Islamic Events Celebration and the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults for 1444 Hijrah Executive Committee Meeting yesterday.
As the chairman of the executive committee, the minister said the annual meeting is significant in commemorating historical Islamic events in the Sultanate and upholding the aspiration to be recognised for its religiosity.
Members of the executive committee were urged to focus efforts on enhancing the quality of the celebrations.
The meeting also served to disseminate Islamic eminence and its teachings.
Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces; and representatives from the Royal Brunei Police Force were among those in attendance.
