Iran voices concern over clashes in Lebanon Palestinian refugee camp

TEHRAN (XINHUA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani yesterday expressed concern over the continued deadly clashes in southern Lebanon’s Ain Al-Helweh refugee camp.

The clashes between members of the Fatah Movement and militants in the Palestinian refugee camp over the past few days have led to at least 12 deaths, 40 injuries, and the displacement of over 2,000 refugees.

Kanaani, in a statement, urged the complete cessation of clashes in the camp and called on all sides to commit to the cease-fire agreed on Monday.

Kanaani stressed that Palestine is more than ever in need of unity and solidarity, calling on all Palestinians to focus on fighting the “occupying” Israel, which is the “main source of all problems faced by the Palestinian people as well as the instability and unrest in the region”.

The armed clashes in the refugee camp broke out Saturday night.

Such clashes between rival Palestinian groups often occur in the Ain Al-Helweh camp, which is the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon.
