The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO Voctech) introduced the use of a Welding Simulator powered by augmented reality (AR) technology to the technical and Vocational Education and Training’s (TVET) community in Brunei Darussalam.
A special training programme was conducted on June 13 and 14 involving welding instructors from both the public and private sectors in the Sultanate for 12 participants from training centres, Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), Pakar Tenaga Bersatu Sdn Bhd (PTB) and Joffren Omar Company Sdn Bhd as well SEAMEO Voctech staff.
The cutting-edge technology revolutionises the way welding training is conducted. Students and professionals can simulate real welding scenarios in a controlled and safe environment through AR.
The programme is currently conducted by representative of Seabery Soluciones, through its regional representative based in Indonesia, Hidayat.
Conforming to the introduction of green technology initiatives for TVET, the welding simulator will enhance the training of welders in the proper welding techniques meeting up to industry standards without the exposure to hazardous gases emitted during actual welding trainings.
The accuracy of welding practices by trainees are automatically assessed by the simulator and provide immediate and detailed analysis of the welding performances.
The programme is in line with ‘Preparing TVET for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) in the region’.SEAMEO Voctech is working on a memorandum of understanding with Seabery
Soluciones, Spain to have regular training programmes at SEAMEO Voctech to expand the use of IR4.0 technology approach to the TVET community both in Brunei and SEAMEO member countries.
