International re-accreditation for ISB

International School Brunei (ISB) has been re-accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the International Baccalaureate (IB).

ISB is committed to continuous improvement and ensuring that the education the school offers is one of the best in Southeast Asia. ISB has been engaged in an important process since last year when the school was independently evaluated against the standards and practices of both the CIS and IB.

These accreditations are fundamental to the school as they provide external validity as to ISB’s quality and enable the school to function as a recognised educational body around the world.

The CIS is a globally recognised institution that certifies educational standards of international schools; its accreditation is the gold mark of standards for international education whose vision is to inspire the development of global citizens through high quality international education: connecting ideas, cultures, and educators from every corner of the world.

The IB Diploma Programme provides students with a balanced education, facilitates geographic and cultural mobility, and promotes international understanding. Only schools that have successfully completed the authorisation process may teach the IBDP. The IB supports schools in building the understanding and organisational structures needed to implement the diploma programme and become an IB World School.

Passing both accreditations highlights that ISB has met the highest professional performance in international education, focussed on teaching and learning quality as well as students’ well-being.

ISB Principal and CEO Tony Macfadyen said, “This double re-accreditation confirms ISB’s commitment to inspiring excellence in our students as well as developing the whole child. My thanks and congratulations go to all our staff and the Board of Directors as this was a real team effort.”

One of the chief architects of the success was ISB’s Carol Hancox who led the process along with the Steering Committee and Senior Management Team. Hancox said, “I truly value the benefits that CIS accreditation provides for the ISB community. As a parent, I know that the school is measuring itself against standards that other high class international schools are using, the wholistic approach of the accreditation also means that every aspect of the school is involved, from the facilities to the staffing and the teaching and learning to the wellbeing. I also know that the school can attract high quality teachers under the badge of CIS whom I have the privilege to work alongside. There was a lot of hard work put into the process by all staff whom I would like to thank for their contributions and collaboration and for showing ISB at its best”.
