A restaurant in Kiarong has had its halal certification revoked after authorities discovered a non-halal food product on its premises during an inspection on March 12.
The operation, conducted by the Halal Food Control Division of the Syariah Affairs Department, was part of routine monitoring of halal-certified restaurants in Gadong to ensure compliance with the Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order, 2005.
During the inspection, officers found a packet of ‘Special Pork Chicaron San Miguel Bulacan’ – a pork-based snack – inside the kitchen of the restaurant.
The presence of the product violated the conditions of the halal certification.
Under Section 37 of the Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order, 2005, failure to comply with halal certification requirements can result in fines of up to BND8,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both.
As a result, the restaurant’s halal certificate and halal supervisor accreditation were immediately revoked on March 12 and the non-halal product was seized for further investigation.
The Syariah Affairs Department reminded all food business operators with halal certifications or permits to strictly adhere to halal regulations to avoid legal consequences, including certification revocation.
To safeguard the interests of the Muslim community in the country, the department assured that it will continue to enforce halal certification regulations through regular inspections and monitoring. – Fadley Faisal
