An Indonesian national was fined BND5,000 by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate’s Court for possessing smuggled cigarettes.
Mujiono, 49, would have to serve five months’ jail in default of payment of the fine.
Magistrate Nur Eleana binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Hairol Arni heard that the defendant was arrested by Customs preventive officers on October 29, at a workers’ residence in Kampong Kapok. The operation by officers from the Bandar Seri Begawan branch led to the confiscation of three cartons, 12 packets, and 14 sticks of various cigarette brands.
The court ordered the seized cigarettes to be destroyed. – Fadley Faisal
