A 44-year-old Indonesian was sentenced on Wednesday to eight months’ jail with four canings after he pleaded guilty to overstaying for over eight years.
Siswohadi was arrested at a rented room in Kampong Tungku Gadong when immigration enforcers conducted a raid at 12.30am on September 5.
Magistrate Nur Eleana binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Hairol Arni further heard from immigration prosecutor Mohd Zul Azri bin Haji Ranee that the defendant had stayed on following the expiry of his employment pass on September 3, 2015.
Investigations also revealed that the Indonesian national had been reported as a runaway worker. – Fadley Faisal
