An Indonesian man was fined BND1,500 by the Magistrate’s Court on Monday after pleading guilty to soliciting prostitution at a hotel in Gadong.
Mustolih, 31, obtained sexual services from a Vietnamese woman in exchange for payment.
The court heard that on March 15, at about 8.53pm, officers from the Gambling Suppression and Anti-Vice Unit raided a hotel room based on intelligence of suspected prostitution activities.
Inside the room, police found Mustolih and the woman, leading to their arrest. A search of Mustolih’s belongings uncovered a mobile phone, IDR12,24,000, and a bag.
Investigations revealed that Mustolih had contacted the woman via WhatsApp earlier that evening, negotiating a rate of BND40 for her services. Upon arriving at the hotel, he proceeded to the designated room, where he paid the woman before being interrupted by the police raid.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Emily Goh informed the court that Mustolih had no prior convictions.
Magistrate Syaffina Shahif ordered Mustolih to pay the fine, or serve two months’ imprisonment if he fails to do so. – Fadley Faisal
