Indonesian Embassy hosts Raya gathering

Still in the spirit of Aidilfitri, the Indonesian Embassy in Brunei Darussalam hosted a Hari Raya reception for the Diplomatic Corps and government officials yesterday.

The event, held at the Indonesian ambassador’s residence was attended by 200 people and carried out in accordance with the health protocols, such as body temperature check and the use of hand sanitisers. The event was split into three groups – businesses and non-government officials, high ranking Brunei officials and representatives from Indonesian diaspora in the Sultanate.

Several Cabinet ministers attended the gathering including Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Ir Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, and Minister of Culture Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.

Also present were senior government officials and ambassadors of foreign missions in the country, local entrepreneurs, importers of Indonesian products, academics, and influencers.

Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Dr Sujatmiko said the event aimed to strengthen cooperation between Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam and other countries, as well as being a means of promoting Indonesia through the display of decorations at Wisma Duta and the Indonesian culinary.

“I would like to wish a Happy Aidilfitri 1443 Hijrah. I also hope the event will further enhance the friendship and strengthen bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam,” Dr Sujatmiko said.

The attendees were treated to an array of Indonesian culinary dishes such as jamu, lontong, bakso, and pecel.
