A local man, Mohammad Afiq bin Haji Ariffin was fined BND300 after law enforcers from the licensing and Enforcement Section, Brunei Muara District Office (JDBM) caught him disposing of rubbish illegally at the Jerudong Beach area last Thursday, March 19.

Meanwhile, at a routine inspection conducted by the law enforcers in Kampung Sengkurong and Kampung Lugu, Mukim Sengkurong earlier this month, three companies were caught disposing of rubbish illegally.
Two companies were each fined with a compound of BND500 while another company was offered a compound of BND1000.

These offences violate Section 12 (1) (a) of the Miscellaneous Act (Chapter 30). Both individuals and companies have been given seven days to settle the fines. Failure to do so will lead to the case being brought to court under Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Act. If found guilty, the penalty is not more than BND9,000 for individuals and BND30,000 for companies or imprisonment of 12 months or both.
The department called on the public to cooperate in sharing any information related to illegal rubbish disposal by enclosing the location address and pictures through the department’s WhatsApp line. – Lyna Mohammad
