The High Commission of India commemorated the 78th Independence Day of India at the India House, the official residence of the High Commissioner of India on Thursday.
The event marked India’s enduring legacy of freedom and sovereignty.
The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the Indian national flag by Indian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Alok Amitabh Dimri followed by the singing of the National Anthem, “Jana Gana Mana”.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Indian community, school children, Persons of Indian Origin, and friends of India, who gathered to honour the significant day in India’s history.
The High Commissioner read the excerpts of the President’s Address to the Nation, delivered on the eve of the 78th Independence Day. The High Commissioner also highlighted the progress India has made since its independence and the strong bonds shared with Brunei Darussalam. The High Commissioner also paid tribute to the sacrifices of the freedom fighters who paved the way for the nation’s independence.
It was shared that the Indian community came together and showcased national pride as they took part in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign from 9th to 15th August 2024 to mark the celebrations of Indian Independence Day. Guests enjoyed a selection of Indian cuisine, reflecting the diverse culinary traditions of India.
