A 51-year-old Indian national and a director of a company pleaded not guilty on Saturday to a charge under Section 6(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 131.
Balagurunathan Jayaraman faces the charge arising from an incident on October 5, 2022, when according to Prosecutor Tiah Teck Chiun, Jayaraman allegedly offered a labour inspector BND50 as a bribe to expedite the processing of his foreign workers’ license application.
The allegation was prompted by a report received by the Anti-Corruption Bureau from the Labour Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Magistrate Nur Eleana binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Hairol Arni scheduled a hearing for October 28, during which hearing dates for the case will be established. Meanwhile, Jayaraman has been ordered to remain in remand at Maraburong Prison due to his inability to raise bail or secure two local sureties. – Fadley Faisal
