The increasing number of COVID-19 patients in Categories 4 and 5 can be attributed to worsening health conditions among positive cases.

This was said by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar in response to a media query at the daily press conference yesterday.

He added that based on the trends in other countries, the increase in the number of cases in Categories 4 and 5 is expected to persist two weeks after the peak.

The minister also shared that there are currently 17 cases in Category 4 under close monitoring requiring oxygen assistance, while nine cases in Category 5 are receiving artificial ventilation at the intensive care unit.

These cases, he added, make up 10 per cent of the treatment capacity at the National Isolation Centre.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said the bed occupancy rate at isolation centres nationwide is 7.8 per cent or 271 active cases, while 35,185 positive cases are currently undergoing home self-isolation.
