Athletes competing internationally at their own expenses can be considered for financial assistance, said Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad during yesterday’s 19th Legislative Council (LegCo) session.
LegCo member Yang Berhormat Haji Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya’akup inquired on incentives and financial assistance for athletes who had competed overseas at their own expense.
In his reply, the minister noted that provision for incentives and assistance should have their sports association complete a form, with the invitation letter to the tournament, a list of athletes, competition rules and regulations and other related documents to the ministry, where the application will be considered based on its significance and the level of competition.
The sports association will also need to provide information of expenses three months ahead of the competition for the sports committee to review, he said, alongside other applications.
