Immigration crackdown in Belait District leads to multiple arrests

In a recent crackdown aimed at curbing immigration violations in Brunei, the Law Enforcement Division of the Immigration and National Registration Department’s Kuala Belait branch conducted two operations under Operasi Kabat JIPK 2024 recently. The operations targeted worker accommodations and a construction site in Belait District, resulting in several arrests for suspected immigration offenses.
 
The first operation, conducted at foreign worker accommodations in Mukim Liang and Mukim Belait, involved the inspection of nine foreign nationals. Three individuals were detained after failing to provide valid immigration documents and are believed to have overstayed in the country, a violation under Chapter 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17.

In the second operation, conducted at a construction site in Mukim Seria, three more foreign nationals were inspected, leading to three arrests. Among the detainees, one individual was also suspected of overstaying, while another was found allegedly working for an employer other than their original sponsor, violating Regulation 15(2) of the Immigration Regulations. The third individual is suspected of facilitating unauthorised employment, an offense under Regulation 35(1) of the Immigration Regulations.
