Imams stress parents’ duty to safeguard children

In the Friday sermon, Imams expressed concern over the increasing vulnerability of today’s children to uncontrolled social issues such as bullying, drug misuse, runaway incidents, and absenteeism from school.

Imams emphasised the need for parents to recognise the gravity of these challenges and to actively fulfill their responsibility in shielding their children from negative influences, ensuring their adherence to Islamic teachings and the nation’s regulations.

Highlighting the profound responsibility bestowed upon parents and guardians, the Imams stressed the obligation to educate children with a well-rounded and morally sound upbringing, integrating values that resonate with both worldly matters and the hereafter.

They urged parents to remain attentive and nurturing, addressing the emotional, mental, and physical needs of their children.

Neglecting these responsibilities, they cautioned, could jeopardise the rights entitled to the children.

In addition to local concerns, the Imams also drew attention to the plight of children in Gaza, Palestine, who have suffered from Israeli attacks since October 7.

The rising toll of casualties, including women, children, and infants, prompted a call for urgent assistance.

Brunei Darussalam has established the Humanitarian Fund for Palestinians in Gaza 2023, and Imams urged the public to contribute through designated avenues such as mosques, prayer halls, bank buildings, businesses, and public establishments nationwide, including Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) online services and SMS Brunei Prihatin.

Contributions can also be made via direct remittance to the secretariat of the Palestinian Humanitarian Fund in Gaza 2023, located on the 2nd floor of the Community Development Department (JAPEM), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Building in Jalan Kebangsaan, Bandar Seri Begawan, during working hours. – Azlan Othman
