The Magistrate’s Court yesterday heard the case involving 10 foreigners facing allegations of smuggling out close to 20,000 litres of diesel.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Pengiran Hajah Nor Azmeena binti Pengiran Haji Mohiddin’s charges alleged that 10,000 litres of diesel worth BND3,100 was being illegally exported from a jetty in Muara at 9.56am on March 25 by four Indonesians – Arwin Usman, Idrus Sane, Sirijudding Bolong and Mas Nur bin Sipa – and Myanmar nationals Chan Nyein Aung, Khant Lin Htut and Aye Min Han.
Bangladeshis Jahir Hossen, Md Abu Sayed and Uzzal Miah are alleged to be involved in the exportation of 9,500 litres of diesel worth BND2,945 at Jalan Serasa at 11.15pm on March 25.
Magistrate Syaffina binti Shahif adjourned the case to May 13 on hearing the prosecution inform that the defendants could not be produced in court due to logistical restrictions.
The defendants were first produced in court last March to face the charges which carry penalties of a fine ranging from BND10,000 to BND500,000, maximum three years’ jail or both.
For a repeat offender, the penalty is enhanced to a fine ranging from BND20,000 to BND500,000, jail ranging from six months to five years or both.
