The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Brunei Darussalam Network held its 26th annual general meeting (AGM) at I-Lotus Restaurant in Kampong Rimba on Friday.
The AGM received the chairman’s report and the treasurer’s report for the 2023 session, and also the election of the new office bearers, management committee members and auditors for the 2024 term.
The new management committee comprises professionals from government and private institutions. Ir Dayangku Roselawati binti Pengiran Haji Halus was elected as the honorary chair for the 2024 session, while Ir Dr Tang Shi Siong was elected as the honorary vice chair, Muhd Faiz Adros as the honorary secretary, Muhd Aminuddin bin Mohd Yussop as the new honorary treasurer and Muhammad Zahin Syafiq bin Haji Mohamed Azmi as honorary assistant secretary.
Other committee members are Lim Sam Lee, Ir Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar, Dr William Voon South Fee, Ir Simon K A Leong, Ir Dr Terry Jayasuriya, Jevons Q Penaflor, Lieutenant Colonel (U) Schufin bin Haji Brahim, Pengiran Haji Masle bin Pengiran Haji Hamid and Zainidi bin Haji Abdul Hamid. Meanwhile, Haji Noryasmin bin Haji Mohd Noor and Ir Liaw Ing Haur were elected as auditors for 2024.
Meanwhile, the IET Young Professional Section (YPS) elected Jevons Q Penaflor as chair, Muhd Faiz Adros as vice chair, Muhammad Zahin Syafiq as secretary, Muhammad Khairin bin Haji Fadzil as assistant secretary and Tay Shieh Cherng as treasurer. Also elected as IET YPS committee were Ikhwan Tiong bin Abdullah, Rahimin bin Abdullah, Sean B Ng, Siti Amal Nazirah binti Muhd Sophian and Tang Dun Hao.
The honorary chairman reiterated the vision and mission of IET and what the IET Brunei Local Network stood for. The IET Brunei sets its vision in sharing and advancing knowledge throughout the global Science, Engineering and Technology (STEM) community contributing towards national development. With a mission to establish a culture of professionalism highly valued and appreciated by all in the Sultanate. Increased membership and collaboration with stakeholders will be key success factors in achieving the mission.
The honorary chair also reported the IET Brunei membership with a total of 100 members.
The AGM ended with a technical talk on ‘Expectations of the Electrical Engineering Profession by Daniel L Keasberry.
The 2023 session marked several milestones and achievements such as the adaptation of social media to disseminate information.
The IET stands as the largest multidisciplinary professional engineering institution globally.
