Institute Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) and Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to cooperate on skill development yesterday.
The agreement also outlined collaboration between the two parties in making use of the IBTE training facilities at Sultan Bolkiah Campus to run training programmes, including HNTec in Mechanical Engineering, the Engineering Technical Progression Scheme and others.
The signing also facilitates the exchange of knowledge for both parties to assist with skill development training for IBTE and Brunei LNG trainees.
Both parties also agree to prepare training equipment.
IBTE CEO and Director of Technical Education Dr Haji Mohd Zamri bin Haji Sabli and IBTE Satellite Campus Principal Dr Suhaimi bin Haji Abdullah signed on behalf of IBTE, while Acting Managing Director and CEO of Brunei LNG Hajah Melissa binti Haji Zainal Abidin and Brunei LNG Human Resources, HR, External Relations, Real Estate and Facilities Manager Mizan Adillah binti Haji Mohamad Deli signed for the company.
Hajah Melissa said, “The signing of the MoU today with IBTE is an important step in advancing Brunei Vision 2035.
“Apart from providing employment opportunities, our collaboration also focuses on active participation as the programme development and evaluation committee and aligning the curriculum with the needs of the industry.“
She added, “We expect this will benefit more than 700 students and technicians by 2035, forming a skilled workforce for Brunei Darussalam’s energy industry.
“This reaffirms our commitment to maintain and enhance our successful partnership, contributing to our nation’s progress beyond 2035. We thank IBTE for their trust and look forward to an exciting future together at Brunei LNG.”
Dr Haji Mohd Zamri said, “IBTE has always strived for continuous professional development of its teaching staff based on clearly defined competencies.
“This MoU helps to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and expertise from Brunei LNG as well as providing competency development for IBTE staff.”
He added, “Brunei LNG personnel also stand to gain access to a variety of training opportunities, enabling them to achieve greater levels of in-depth knowledge.
“With the strategic partnership, we are not only bridging the gap between theory and practice but also opening new avenues for students and professionals to embark on valuable insights and hands-on experiences that will shape the future of our students, teaching staff and enhancement towards quality teaching and learning.”
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications Ir Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof was the guest of honour at the signing ceremony. – James Kon
