Sixteen individuals from the hospitality and tourism industry completed the two-day Basic Sign Language Workshop for Tourist Guides at the VIP Lounge at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) on Wednesday.
Organised by Tourism Development Department at the MPRT and the Department of Special Education at the Ministry of Education, the workshop aimed to equip front liners, especially tour guides, receptionists and guest service agents with the necessary skills to communicate effectively with deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors, ensuring a more seamless and enriching experience for all.
The workshop was facilitated by experienced sign language instructors from the Department of Special Education who specialise in deaf communication and cultural sensitivity.
Participants completing the workshop received certificates of participation, recognising their commitment to providing inclusive and accessible tourism services. – James Kon
