Twenty-six companies offering over 400 job opportunities participated at the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Market Day at Wafa Hotel and Apartment yesterday.

Deputy Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh officiated the opening ceremony.

Chief Executive Officer of IBTE Dr Haji Mohd Zamri bin Haji Sabli in his welcoming remarks said IBTE continues to be committed to ensuring the programmes offered by the institute are always relevant and meet the industries’ need.

“The institute has and will continue to collaborate with the stakeholders such as the Manpower Industry Steering Committee (MISC) and the industry to ensure IBTE students are marketable and employable,” said Dr Haji Mohd Zamri, adding that the benchmark for IBTE’s success is the rate of employment of IBTE graduates after completing their studies.

“IBTE have targetted 75 per cent of its graduates to get employed in a period of six months after completion of their studies,” he said.

He called on the IBTE Alumni who are still job hunting to take opportunities from IBTE ‘market days’ as it will indirectly help to tackle unemployment among local youth, while stressing the need to not be choosy in landing a job.

However, they must also think of a job that is relevant to the knowledge gained during their studies at IBTE and fully benefit the knowledge and be a human model who is highly skilled, which is in alignment with Brunei Vision 2035, he said.

IBTE worked with stakeholders in identifying and inviting potential employers to offer special job openings for the Market Day event.

Tendrill International Sdn Bhd marked its first participation in the exhibition with the objectives to screen candidates for job openings and to introduce and promote the company as a desirable place to work.

Another first timer was PTAS Aker Solutions who participated with the objectives to source quality potential candidates from the graduate pool of IBTE.

Meanwhile, Megalift Sdn Bhd hoped to get more graduates with technical backgrounds to join the company, which had been a regular participant in IBTE Market Day since it first launched in 2013.

Organised by the IBTE Career Guidance Unit, under the Student Affairs Division, the event yesterday was a platform for the IBTE graduates of 2019 to 2021 to seek and apply for jobs.
