ANN/THE STAR – Tony Leung Chiu Wai was in South Korea recently to attend the Busan Film Festival where he is bestowed the film festival’s Asian Filmmaker Of The Year award.

While in South Korea, the Hong Kong actor met up with many celebrities and filmmakers from the country. However it was his meeting with Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk that got fans excited.

Leung’s wife, Hong Kong actress Carina Lau posted several photos of the actor and the South Korean director on her Instagram with the caption, “Ready for Squid Game?” She even tagged the show’s official account, @squidgamenetflix.

This led to fans speculating if Leung will be featured in the upcoming season of the hit K-drama.

After all, the 60-year-old actor was quoted as saying he is open to starring in Korean shows.

“If there are roles for which I can overcome the language barrier, I would like to star in Korean drama,” Leung said at the recent Busan Film Festival.

“I recently watched the film CODA. If there is a role that does not require me to speak like the characters in that film, maybe I can also be in Korean dramas,” he added. Hwang confirmed he is in the midst of writing the second season of Squid Game and that filming will commence next year.

“It’ll probably be released two years from now,” the 51-year-old director said recently, adding that the K-drama will not have any guest stars from Hollywood despite some Western actors who have approached him.
