His Majesty, Vietnam President in bilateral meeting

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on Thursday attended a Bilateral Meeting with President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam Luong Cuong at The Westin Lima Hotel and Convention Centre in Lima, Republic of Peru.

Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

During the Bilateral Meeting, His Majesty in a titah, expressed great pleasure with the first official meeting between the two leaders, and congratulated the President on his recent appointment as the President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. His Majesty then expressed his appreciation to President for the invitation to visit Viet Nam, and looked forward to visit the country once again as well as to continue working in further enhancing the Comprehensive Partnership in areas of mutual interest.

Touching on the bilateral relationship of Brunei Darussalam and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, His Majesty highlighted that both countries share warm and close relations, through the people-to-people links cultivated over many years. Political cooperation has continued to expand and the Plan of Action will chart a strategic direction in bilateral relations. In light of this, His Majesty expressed pleasure that economic cooperation is progressing well, exceeding the USD500 million trade target set in 2017, and further suggested to set a new feasible trade target to ensure the continuity of these excellent ties.

In ending the titah, His Majesty conveyed Brunei Darussalam’s support for the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in hosting APEC in 2027.

Diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam were established on 29th February 1992, in which both countries cooperate extensively in various areas including economic, trade, energy and education.
