His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will officiate the opening ceremony of the 18th session of the Legislative Council (LegCo) meeting at the LegCo Building on Thursday.
LegCo Speaker Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib will chair the session assisted by Clerk I to the LegCo Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Haji Judin bin Haji Asar and Deputy Clerk to the LegCo Rose Aminah binti Haji Ismail.
The LegCo meeting is entering its 18th year since its inception in 2004, and will discuss and approve the 2022 Supply Bill for 2022/2023, which will go through three stages before being adopted and gazetted for use starting April 1.
The LegCo has become a strategic platform to deliberate on matters pertaining to the people and national interests.
LegCo members will play a role as the people’s voice in discussing and reviewing government policies for Brunei citizens’ well-being.
The 36 LegCo members comprise ex-officio members, persons bestowed with titles, persons who have achieved excellence and district representatives.
In accordance with the safety guidelines, the public can watch the LegCo meeting in a limited capacity.
Daily deliberations can be followed via Radio Television Brunei (RTB) channels at 9pm and after the 10pm news.
