His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday received in audience Malaysian Minister of Defence Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan.
Accompanying the Minister of Defence were Chief of Defence Force, Malaysia Armed Forces General Dato Paduka Seri Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Affendi bin Buang, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam Dato’ Raja Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah and Deputy Secretary General (Policy) Ministry of Defence Malaysia Ahmad Nadzri bin Mohd Hassan.
The Sultanate and Malaysia have enjoyed a long history of defence cooperation since February 14, 1992 through the signing of a memorandum of understanding on Defence Cooperation.
As a result, bilateral defence relations have strengthened with cooperation and engagements in various fields such as defence agreements, professional exchanges at all levels, trainings and exercises throughout all major services, Land, Navy and Air from both Armed Forces.
Additionally, both countries cooperate on various multilateral platforms, which include the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus, as well as through international peacekeeping operations such as the International Monitoring Team (IMT) in Mindanao and United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad and his delegation were in the country for a one-day official visit.
The audience ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman.
