His Majesty presents prizes to top qari, qariah

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam presented prizes to the winners of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults for 1445 Hijrah at the International Convention Centre, Berakas yesterday.

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah were also in attendance.

In the qari category, the winner was Haji Mohammad bin Ali, followed by Pengiran Md Amirul Aiman bin Pengiran Haji Marjuki in second place and Awangku Adi Nazri bin Pengiran Haji Jofri in third.

In the qariah category, the winner was Dayangku Fauziah Nadhirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri, followed by Dayangku Siti Ummi Syazana binti Pengiran Haji Marjuki in second place and Najla’ Sabreena binti Haji Abdul Rajid in third.

First place winners received a BND7,000 cash prize, a trophy and certificate, an umrah package worth BND4,200 sponsored by Balurih Travel Sdn Bhd, a Tekad Haji account worth BND3,000 sponsored by Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (Perbadanan TAIB), Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd and Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd as well as kain tenunan Brunei from Syarikat Little Umi.

Meanwhile, second place winners received BND5,000 cash, a certificate, a BND2,000 Tekad Haji account as well as an umrah ticket from At-Taqwa Travel and Tours.

The third place winners received BND3,000, a certificate, a holiday package to Istanbul, Turkiye worth BND2,500 and a BND1,000 Tekad Haji account.

Earlier, upon arrival at the competition venue, His Majesty and other members of the royal family were greeted by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, as the Chairperson of the Executive Committee for the competition, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, and other executive committee members.

This year’s competition, themed ‘Al-Quran, Pedomanku’, was co-organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Perbadanan TAIB, Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd and Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd.  – Azlan Othman
