The improved National Service Programme (PKBN) training curriculum with added value was commended by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
His Majesty said PKBN alumni are now more ready to render services when called upon.
The monarch said this at the passing out parade of the 11th PKBN intake in Batu Apoi, Temburong District.
His Majesty said the National Service Division took the initiative to introduce new curriculum focussing on civil defence.
There is also a one-week basic disaster preparedness training leading to PKBN alumni now being equipped with necessary skills and knowledge to volunteer in times of national disasters.
The monarch said this reflects the efficacy and high value of the PKBN training to ensure its relevance.
His Majesty also noted the PKBN’s collaboration with several agencies to introduce the iSkill programme that enhances physical and spiritual training during the national service.
The monarch is delighted that the National Service Division, in collaboration with the Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) and Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), has introduced a 90-day programme aimed at improving the discipline and resilience of IBTE students that began on August 20, 2022.
His Majesty believes such programmes can be extended to young officials in the public and private sectors to strengthen self-identity as well as leadership skills.
The monarch also noted that the PKBN training camp is being used as a COVID-19 Community Isolation Centre, which reflects the venue’s usage for multiple functions if needed.
Earlier, His Majesty expressed gratitude to Allah the Almighty that the passing out parade could take place after a year’s postponement due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The monarch noted that the 539 trainees that completed the three-month programme yesterday was the largest batch in the PKBN’s history.
