His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is in Bangkok, Thailand for a two-day official visit which ends today.
Accompanying His Majesty is His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
The monarch was welcomed on arrival at Suvarnabhumi International Airport by Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.
His Majesty was then introduced to Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Pirapan Salirathavibhaga as the minister-in-attendance; and Thai Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Boosara Kanchanalai.
Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof and Brunei Darussalam Ambassador to Thailand Pengiran Haji Sahari bin Pengiran Haji Salleh were also present to greet the monarch.
Earlier, State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned recited a Doa Selamat prior to leaving Istana Nurul Iman.
Present at His Majesty the Sultan’s Flight Hangar in Rimba to bid farewell to His Majesty were members of the royal family.
Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Cabinet ministers, members of the Privy Council, deputy ministers, the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and the Acting Commissioner of Police of the Royal Brunei Police Force were also present.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Sultanate and Thailand since it was established on January 1, 1984. The official visit will provide an opportunity for the two countries to discuss bilateral as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
