His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam graced the new Az-Zakireen Mosque at RPN Kampong Meragang and performed Friday prayer at the new mosque.
His Majesty was accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik.
His Majesty was greeted on arrival by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman.
His Majesty then signed a plaque and Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin recited takbir, signalling the official opening of the mosque.
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan delivered the Friday sermon, while the Friday prayer was led by Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.
The new mosque can accommodate some 2,200 congregants with facilities including toilets for people with different abilities (OKU), lecture room, library, funeral management room as well as parking for OKU.
The new mosque built on a 8.159-acre site was allocated BND4.3 million under the National Development Plan. – Azlan Othman
