His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the Istiadat Akad Nikah Diraja between the daughter of His Majesty, Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Bahar ibni His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque yesterday.
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah also graced the ceremony.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris and Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin. His Majesty’s entry into the mosque was led by Panglima Diraja carrying pemuras and karga while Panglima Asgar carrying kelasak and kampilan and accompanied by Pembawa-Pembawa Alat-Alat Perhiasan Tunggal, Perhiasan Empat Duli Yang Teramat Mulia-Duli Yang Teramat Mulia and Perhiasan Empat Duli-Duli Wazir.
Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Bahar arrived at the mosque, accompanied by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Hakeem and led by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Sanggamara Diraja Major General (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Ibnu Basit, preceded by 12 sinipit. This was followed by Royal Regalia brought by Awang-Awang made up of six pedang and perisai, six tumbak bendarangan and four kabok and panastan.
The ceremony began with Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Adanan informing Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris that the ceremony was ready to proceed, who in turn informed His Majesty.
When His Majesty consented for the ceremony to begin, Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim, accompanied by two Awang-Awang, came forward to seek His Majesty’s signature for the solemnisation form.
With the consent from His Majesty, Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim began the Akad Nikah.
Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Bahar, who was dressed in traditional Malay attire, affirmed his acceptance of the Akad Nikah. Outside the mosque, cannons were fired 17 times to mark the conclusion of the ritual.
Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Bahar then read the Lafaz Ta’liq, in the presence of His Majesty and four witnesses, stating that he will stay loyal to his bride and be responsible for her well-being, before signing the solemnisation form.
Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim and the four witnesses of the solemnisation also signed the document.
A Doa Selamat was read by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.
Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Adanan then informed Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris that the Istiadat Akad Nikah Diraja had concluded, who in turn informed His Majesty.
His Majesty then consented for the ceremony to end, before leaving the mosque with other members of the royal family, followed by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Bahar and his entourage.
