His Majesty advocates for spiritual enrichment in Borneo’s education

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, has urged higher education institutions in Borneo to evolve into true hubs of knowledge, with a special focus on preserving the rich history of Islamic civilisation in the Malay Archipelago.

In a titah during the launch of the 15th International Islamic Conference of Borneo (KAIB) held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas this morning, the monarch highlighted that the development of Islamic communities should be holistic and extend beyond mere material or physical aspects.

“Development focused solely on physical advancement tends to be short-lived. History demonstrates how great ancient empires crumbled due to progress lacking solid divine values.

“The Borneo archipelago, abundant in natural resources, must also be rich in spiritual resources, to cultivate a resilient and robust society capable of confronting all challenges and threats of the times.”
