The record high numbers of new COVID-19 cases in recent days were due to backlogs.
This was said by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar during a press conference yesterday.
The minister also brought up recent viral photos on social media of long queues at testing centres, saying that it was “a good sign. It shows that the public are being socially responsible by getting tested for COVID-19 without waiting for symptoms to show”.
Regarding the upcoming National Day celebration, the minister said it has been scaled down to just 3,000 participants from the usual 30,000.
Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said standard operating procedures (SOPs) are in place at the venue, such as participants and the public requiring to screen for COVID-19 using the antigen rapid test (ART) kit at designate stations prior to entry.
Apart from tests, only those with green or yellow BruHealth codes are allowed entry.
