ANN/THE STAR – Heavy rains from late Saturday night until early yesterday lashed the popular tourist destination of Phuket, inundating many main roads and areas of this southern Thailand province.

At several spots, murky runoffs from mountains caused houses to be flooded.

The flood-hit areas included the Tha Rua Monument intersection, the Ban Koh Kaew community, a road in front of Ban Pon housing estate, and a road in front of Blue Tree Choeng Thale Hotel.

Many houses along the road behind the Loch Palm Golf Club were also hit by a runoff from a mountain and some houses were under almost metre-high water.

Communities in tambon Kamala of Krathu district were hit by a runoff from a nearby mountain.

Local authorities said floodwaters on Phuket roads would gradually flow into the sea through the drainage system within hours of the rain stopping.
