JITRA (BERNAMA) – A nine-month pregnant woman and her husband were arrested with 10.2 kilogrammes (kg) of ganja in the vehicle they were travelling in.

They were believed to be smuggling the contraband into the country at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex on Sunday.

Kubang Pasu district police chief Superintendent Rodzi Abu Hassan said the husband and wife, aged 34 and 35 respectively, from Perlis were detained at about 11.50pm by a police team who was patrolling in the area.

“We conducted an inspection on a pickup truck that was being driven in a suspicious manner before we found 10 packages, weighing 10.27696kg, wrapped in transparent plastic and containing drugs suspected to be ganja hidden under the rear passenger seats,” he told reporters yesterday.

“The drugs were believed to have been smuggled in from a neighbouring country for distribution to the northern states, and the quantity is able to supply a total of 3,200 addicts.”

Rodzi said that based on the investigation, the suspects were found to frequent travellers to Thailand through the Bukit Kayu Hitam border in order to carry out these activities at night.
