An assessment and management course on child abuse and neglect for health professionals was held at Star Lodge, Kampong Jerudong on June 8-9.
Thirty participants and 10 observers comprising doctors, nurses and allied health professionals attended the course.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional) at the Ministry of Health Dr Ang Swee Hui, as guest of honour at the closing ceremony, presented certificates to the participants.
Among the objectives of the course were for participants to improve their skills in identifying signs of abuse and neglect among paediatric patients; produce a record of medical history that takes into account the developmental stages of children; conduct systematic physical examinations; be sensitive to the needs of abused children; and improve the procedure for recording cases of children believed to have suffered abuse, while conducting clinical practice.
